Celebrating Excellence in EE&T! Proud to share that two members of the UNSW School of Electrical Engineering & Telecommunications have been recognised at the 2025 UNSW Engineering ECAN Awards: Dr Rui(Rachel) Z. - Academic Excellence Award (Education) Awarded for designing and delivering ELEC9781: AI for Power System Operation with Renewable Energy, one of Australia's first AI-focused power engineering courses - addressing a critical skills gap as AI and renewable energy reshape the industry. Professor John Fletcher - Collegial Commitment Award Recognised for his exceptional mentorship and long-standing support of Early Career Academics. Through roles including Head of the Energy Group and Director of the Digital Grid Future Institute, Prof Fletcher has created meaningful opportunities, funding pathways, and a strong culture of collegiality. The School's Head of School, Prof Jinhong Yuan, along with many EE&T academics, attended the ceremony to celebrate these outstanding achievements. Congratulations to both Rachel and John! EMU First Robotics Wins First Prize! We're proud to share that EMU First Robotics achieved an incredible victory at the First Tech Challenge over the weekend, taking home 1st Prize! This achievement means the team will now represent us at the Australian National Championships in early December. The First Tech Challenge is designed for students aged 12-18, encouraging them to think like engineers by collaboratively designing, building, and programming robots to compete against other teams. It's a fantastic opportunity for young innovators to develop problem-solving, teamwork, and technical skills. Congratulations to Dawud Rahmati and the whole team on this outstanding accomplishment! Driving innovation beyond borders! Clay Chu, Prof Rukmi Dutta, and John Fletcher recently showcased their progress in scaling and commercialising the School's IP in high-speed electromagnetic machine design to Shanghai's National Innovation Center par Excellence (NICE) and Wuxi Industrial Innovation Research Institute (WIIRI) as part of the UNSW-NICE collaboration. Joined by the Vice-Chancellor and the Pro Vice-Chancellor (International), the showcase highlighted the significance of these projects and the dedication of teams awarded funding.
